Paula Amy Hewitt – First North Consulting

Paula Amy Hewitt is a regulatory lawyer, and compliance and privacy subject matter expert with over 20 years of experience. In addition to being named among the Top 200 Psychedelics Lawyers three years in a row (2025, 2024, 2023), Paula was recognized by Best Lawyers for Administrative and Public Law (2025) and was named among the Top 50 Female Leaders in Toronto (Women We Admire, 2022).

Formerly General Counsel to Numinus Wellness Inc., Field Trip Health Ltd., and Reunion Neuroscience Inc., Paula’s career in the development and delivery of legal psychedelic treatments includes advising private start-ups along with TSX and NASDAQ-listed issuer clients in the clinic management, research and CRO spaces. Notably, she led the listing of the first psychedelics company offering psilocybin to consumers on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the first listed on the Global Select Tier of the NASDAQ Stock Exchange.  In the psychedelics field, Paula has managed Canadian and US securities offerings totaling around $150MM and oversaw the insurance portfolio for three public companies. 

Prior to working in psychedelics, Paula held various executive roles within Canadian and Multinational financial services companies (CIRO, CSA, FINTRAC, MX, TSX), including as General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Anti-Money Laundering Officer, and Chief Privacy Officer. In addition to her JD, Paula also holds a B.A. in psychology from McGill University and a Graduate Certificate in Risk Management from University of Toronto as well as several industry qualifications. 

Paula sits on the Board of Directors of Caldwell Asset Management, manager of Caldwell Funds and Urbana Corporation, as well as the Board of Governors and Regional Board of Directors for Ontario of Portage Drug Addiction Rehabilitation Centres. 

Paula applies her unique experience to deliver regulatory compliance, capital markets, risk management, and other advisory services to heavily regulated clients in the financial services, FinTech, psychedelics, mental health, and controlled substance spaces.
