Paula Amy Hewitt – BE Law & First North Consulting

As General Counsel to Numinus Wellness Inc., and formerly General Counsel to Field Trip Health Ltd., and Reunion Neuroscience Inc., Paula’s career in the development and delivery of legal psychedelic treatments includes advising private start-ups, TSX-listed and NASDAQ-listed issuer clients. Prior to working in psychedelics, Paula held various executive roles within Canadian and Multinational financial services companies.

Paula has a proven track record of applying her diverse subject matter expertise to design legal solutions that bridge traditional financial services, capital markets, and risk underwriting with the emerging psychedelics industry. She successfully listed the first psychedelics company to make psilocybin available to consumers on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the first psychedelics company on the Global Select Tier of the NASDAQ Stock Exchange, thereby facilitating capital formation. Additionally, Paula managed legal transactions for Canadian and US securities offerings totaling approximately $150MM in the sector in 18 months and the insurance book for three public psychedelics companies.

In addition to her JD, Paula also holds a B.A. in psychology from McGill Univerity and a Graduate Certificate in Risk Management from University of Toronto as well as several industry qualifications. Paula sits on the Board of Caldwell Asset Management, manager of Caldwell Funds and Urbana Corporation, as well as the Board of Governors and Regional Board of Directors for Ontario of Portage Drug Addiction Rehabilitation Centres.

Paula applies her unique experience to deliver services through an equally unique business model. As a founding partner of BE Law (BE-Law.ca), Paula provides fractional general counsel services and legal advice to psychedelics and other heavily regulated clients. Through BE Law’s strategic alliance with First North Consulting (firstnorth.ca), Paula provides regulatory compliance and other advisory services to her clients as First North’s EVP, Capital Markets, Governance & Regulatory Solutions.
